Join us for Trans Swimming on the second Saturday of the month at 4:15pm at Haltemprice Leisure Centre.
Trans swimming is a free event, open to all trans and non-binary folk along with their close allies.
Bring your partners, your kids (under 16s must be accompanied by a parent in the pool), come swim, stand in the pool & have a chat, catch up with old friends & make some new ones.
The Haltemprice cafe serves food until 4.30 pm, and coffee & cake until 5 pm.
Q&A
How much is it?
It’s free.
Do I need to be a member of the leisure centre or Phoenix to come along?
No. Phoenix is providing this for the whole community, not just its members.
How long is the session?
One (1) hour.
Will there be anyone else in the pool?
No, we have the entire pool to ourselves.
It’s a leisure centre, won’t it be busy?
This is the leisure centre’s quiet period, so there aren’t usually many people using the facilities.
Where is it?
120 Springfield Way, Anlaby, Hull HU10 6QJ. (See Map)
How do I get there by public transport?
The 32, 52 and 54 buses all stop very close by. They take about 30 mins from the city centre.
I’ve arrived early. What can I do?
Usually the café is open, grab a drink if you want one. If not, just find a seat and wait.
What can I wear?
A swimming costume, swim shorts, a tri-suit, T-shirt, a binder, trans tape with no top. Basically, if it wouldn’t look out of place on a beach, you’re good! If you’re not sure, drop us a message.
Is there somewhere secure to put my bag in while I’m swimming?
Yes, lockers are £1, which you get back afterwards.
I can’t swim, but I want to come along?
There are two lifeguards on duty if anyone gets into trouble, but be sensible and don’t get out of your depth.
My child is trans, but I’m not, can we come together?
Yes, you most certainly can.
My partner is trans, but I’m not, can we come together?
Yes, you most certainly can.
I’m a bit nervous, can you tell me more?
If you come in the front door, you walk into the café area, follow the tables around to the right and we should be there.
If you come in from the car park, you will pass the reception desk, and straight in front of you there are some tables – we usually congregate around those until we are allowed in the pool.
The changing area is unisex cubicles; you will need £1 for a locker. Head through the shower and get in the pool. After the session, when we have got dressed, we often gather in the café area and chat some more.
